Meet Dr. Nitin Goyal

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, Dr. Goyal embarked upon college and his medical education to become a top orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Goyal attended the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, graduating at the top of his class and becoming elected into the distinguished Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society during his third year. He continued his training with a residency in orthopedic surgery at the prestigious Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He was appointed as the Chief Orthopedic Resident, and received the Everett J. Gordon award for displaying “the most outstanding clinical and surgical achievement.”

After completing his residency, Dr. Goyal remained at the Rothman Institute to receive specialized training in reconstruction of the hip and knee. During this time, he developed specific surgical interests, including direct anterior approach hip replacement, complex revision of failed knee and hip replacement, treatment of hip pain in young adults, and partial and total knee replacement using computer navigation. Because he pursued these interests, he is now one of the only doctors in the Inova Health System who can deliver the muscle-sparing direct anterior approach to total hip replacement. This exciting procedure offers shortened recovery times and reduced complications.

A respected leader within his field

As a leader in joint replacement surgery, Dr. Goyal has been asked to contribute to major orthopaedic journals, as well as present at national meetings and co-author book chapters. Additionally, he is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He is also a co-editor of two medical textbooks on the topic of joint replacement. He continues to research methods of managing postoperative pain following joint replacement, as well as detection and treatment of infection following surgery.

A Personal Approach

Above all medical approaches, he makes it his priority to take a personal approach and take care of each patient to the best of his ability. He works hard to cultivate a strong patient-doctor relationship, so that patients may become motivated in their pursuit of a healthy body.

In his free time, Dr. Goyal enjoys playing tennis, running and working out. He spends most of his leisure time traveling with his wife Rachna.
